After using many different mechanical pencils on the market, I finally have found one that is the perfect in both function and form.
The sleek, minimalist design is wonderful to look at and the smooth, uniform finish just feels right sitting in your hand. It is weighted perfectly so it never feels like it is tipping out of the top of your hand or pulling down towards the page. However, do be aware that the pencil will be heavier than the original pencil, and significantly heavier than a standard plastic pencil, so be prepared to take some time getting used to the weight; once used for a while, it is no longer obvious and what you will find is that when returning to a plastic pencil, they will feel flimsy. The barrel is the perfect diameter; not too thin and not too thick to hold either tightly or loose in your fingertips. There are no sharp lines anywhere on the pencil; it looks like just a solid piece of metal, and that's no accident.
The action of the ejector is the smoothest I've ever used, it flows in a single motion from depression to release. There's no jerky clicks as the lead extends and it doesn't get stuck when releasing pressure on the ejector. The sleeve at the end of the cone is the perfect addition to the original pencil, as I've not had a single break in the last two weeks. Just today, I used a different mechanical pencil, and within the first three strokes, the lead snapped. There is no competition when it comes to usability.
Refilling the pencil and replacing the eraser at the end of the pencil are simple; just pull the eraser out of the end of the ejector and slide the refills into the pencil. That's it. There's no need to undo half the pencil to refill it. The eraser is easy enough to pull out, but fits snugly into the end of the cap, so there's no risk of it falling out or detaching as you are erasing. When erasing, ensure you hold the pencil almost perpendicular to the page to get the best results; the eraser does not leave smudges or residue on your work and effectively erases any marks.
The sleeve sits perfectly around the lead and eliminates the issue of lead breakage that would happen on occasion with the original version. Writing with this pencil is a breeze and I never grow frustrated with my tools now that I have this. I have removed all other pencils from my case, except for the original pencil.
If you enjoy using a mechanical pencil, this is a must have. I am drawn more to writing now than ever because not only is the act of creating enjoyable, so too is the process now that I have the right tools. Even better, I no longer will be contributing to landfill, as I will never need to replace it.
Very nice pen and pencil
I purchased the Stainless Steel mechanical pencil with the 0.5mm and 0.7mm inserts, an eraser plug along with extra erasers. It was the middle of the pandemic and Andrew's excellent support was there, from the very beginning.
I like this pencil, a lot; you won't be prying it out of my hand anytime soon. It is quite frankly over-built and fully repairable which is nearly unheard of in today's throw-away society. I strongly value changing out mechanisms which I have done several times already. The pencil has weight but it's not heavy, and I've comfortably taken notes with it all day long. The clip attaches securely without scratching the body or messing with your shirt pocket. I appreciate the smooth sliding sleeve mechanism and the option to plug the eraser; the cork case is a nice touch. The tolerances of the nose-cone fit to the body will fool you into thinking it's a solid piece, which should give you an idea that it's build quality is incredible. I've used it for nearly two weeks, and already carry it daily.
This pencil is heirloom quality.
You will use it, your children and grandchildren will use it.
The most difficult aspect of this pencil is not knowing which metal to choose because they're all uniquely beautiful. Whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed!
I love my new Modern Fuel Mechanical Pencil. It is Superb Quality and it’s made in the USA. I’m trying to talk my wife into letting me buy the Gel Pen. I need a little tutoring. What is the Allen Hex Key for?
Very happy with this item. Have always wanted a permanent (durable) mechanical pencil :-)
