Thank you for using our Modern Fuel Bolt Action Mechanical Pencil. It is a precision writing instrument that has been manufactured to the highest quality standards and we hope that it will provide you many years of optimal use. Your Modern Fuel writing instrument is unique in that its cone and body will only ever match with each other due to the custom-finish process used during the manufacturing process.
For your convenience, we have included written instructions with diagrams below, as well as videos showing how to do the same procedures. Most issues with our writing instruments can be solved quickly using the steps outlined below. Rarely, a manufacturing defect may present itself and necessitate a warranty replacement. See the information below for submitting a request for warranty service.
ATTEMPT TO UNSCREW THE CONE
If you are able to unscrew the cone, change the refill from the cone. Be sure to re-install the spring when complete.
If you are unable to unscrew the cone, proceed to step 2.
REMOVE THE PIN FROM THE SLIDER
Use your fingers or the included custom wrench to remove the pin.

REPLACE THE REFILL
Reassemble the pen using the above steps in reverse order.
The refill adjustment set screws work on a “jam nut” principle.
In order to maintain the position of the set screw that touches the refill (outside set screw), it needs to bottom out against a second, smaller set screw (inside set screw), or the bottom of the threaded hole.
You will adjust the “tight” position of the outside set screw by moving the inside set screw position.
REMOVE THE SLIDER
Follow steps 2-3 in the section “HOW TO REMOVE THE REFILL.”
REMOVE THE OUTER SET SCREW
Using a 2.5mm allen wrench or custom tool if it was included with your pen, remove the outer set screw.
ADJUST THE INSIDE SET SCREW
Using the same tool, adjust the inside set screw in or out of the slider, as needed, to shorten or lengthen the refill extension.
RE-INSTALL THE OUTER SET SCREW
Re-install the outside set screw until it is tight against the inside set screw.
RE-ASSEMBLE AND CHECK REFILL LENGTH
RE-ADJUST AS REQUIRED
Follow steps 1-5 above as needed until you are satisfied with the refill tip extension.
