REMOVE THE PIN FROM THE BOLT
Use the included custom wrench to remove the pin from the bolt. Press the slider down slightly to engage the refill, this relieves pressure on the pin and will allow smoother unscrewing.
After a turn or two with the wrench, you should be able to loosen the pin by hand. Keep the slider pushing against the spring slightly the entire time.
REMOVE THE SLIDER FROM THE BODY
Remove the slider, be careful, loose parts will roll.
REMOVE THE REFILL AND SPRING
Invert the body upside down to let the refill and spring slide out. Be careful, loose parts will roll.
INSERT THE NEW REFILL AND SPRING
If simply changing the same refill, the set screw will not need to be adjusted. Just insert the new refill into the spring, then slide both into the body of the pen.
ADJUST THE SET SCREW, AS NEEDED
Our set screw comes configured for the Pilot G-2 refill. If you’re changing to a new refill that is a different length, you’ll need to adjust the set screw, switch to the large set screw, and potentially add the refill adaptor.
To gauge which set screw and how far it should extend use our diagram to the right.
Simply choose the appropriate set screw based on your refill type and loosen or tighten the screw by using the small end of the custom wrench tool inserted into the bottom of the screw. Adjust until it matches the diagram.
To gauge if you have the length correct, put the slider, refill, and spring into the body and depress the button until the hole for the pin is even with where it would sit fully engaged in the J-slot. Check the pen tip to see if it extends sufficiently.
(OPTIONAL) ADJUSTING THE TIP
Our diagram to the right shows the default or standard setting for a pen tip. If desired, adjust the set screw tighter for the tip to be retracted further into the pen or looser to make the tip extend further from the pen.
INSERT THE SLIDER BACK INTO THE PEN
Put the slider back in the pen body and align the threaded hole with the top of the J slot.
INSERT & TIGHTEN THE PIN
Press the slider down slightly to engage the refill, this relieves pressure on the pin and will allow smoother screwing. First hand-tighten, then tighten further with the wrench. Do not over tighten, just tight enough that the pin does not come loose during normal use.
